David Broza

Doc

“He has been called Israel’s Bruce Springsteen, and is beloved worldwide…Broza has created a unique musical genre, combining Israeli/rock/gypsy and even a bit of the American west. His songs, many based on Spanish and Hebrew poetry, speak of love and hope, adventure and peace.” The Algemeiner

“His instinctive sonic fusions defy the “world music” flag by enriching his songs with powerful and provocative poetry.” The Toronto Star

It has been five years since Israeli superstar David Broza last toured Australia, delighting audiences and selling out his performances at Sydney Opera House and Hamer Hall. Now audiences have another opportunity to experience Broza as he returns in March 2012 for two intimate theatre shows.

David Broza is considered one of the world’s most dynamic singer/songwriters. His charismatic performances have seen a cultural fusion of the three countries in which he was raised: Israel, Spain, and England. Broza showcases his virtuoso guitar playing through a range of styles from flamenco flavoured rhythmic techniques, to a classic rock-and-roll. Broza unites these three worlds by engaging in the troubadour tradition, featuring in his songs lyrics by some of the worlds' greatest poets.

David Broza is also renowned for his commitment to several humanitarian causes and is particularly dedicated to raising awareness around the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Beginning in 1977, Broza wrote the hit song, Yihye Tov, which became a powerful anthem for the two nation’s collective struggle for peace.

More recently Broza has written and recorded with the Palestinian group, Sabreen. The song Belibi featured Broza and Sabreen’s Wissam Murad, plus two children’s choirs: one from each side of the conflict. His album Night Dawn: The Unpublished Poetry of Townes Van Zandt was released in 2010 to worldwide critical acclaim. In July 2011 Broza launched Third Language, his first album of original lyrics and music since 2002’s ZeHakol o Klum (It’s All or Nothing). Third Language was created specifically for the internet and the success of this inspired Broza to create a new web series called Poetry From the Bench, dedicated to intimate live renditions of poetry.

“His virtuoso guitar is extraordinary – he makes the single instrument in his hands sound like the voices of many.” The Algemeiner

He recently participated in the Playing For Change project, performing the song War – No More Trouble alongside musicians from all corners of the globe including Rocky Dawuni from Ghana and Bono.
